Our History

Managed Growth, Inc. was developed after Todd Porth’s 32 years of disciplined use of futures and options markets in his own operations. Todd’s view is to be hedged at all times because, in his opinion, doing nothing is not an option in today’s markets.

Our Team

Todd Porth - Owner Todd’s comprehensive knowledge of the cattle industry and market stems from his roots in the Midwest. Raised in DeWitt, Iowa on a cattle feeding operation with ties to his family’s sale barn, his love and passion for the industry led to his now extensive feeding programs in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado, with grazing and growing programs in Virginia, Nebraska, and Kansas. His involvement within each sector of the cattle industry, including his development of Managed Growth’s successful hedging program, gives Todd the expertise to help you grow a hedging program that’s right for you.

Hank Klosterman Hank’s cattle industry experience began on his family’s feedlot in David City, Nebraska and through his family’s long-time involvement with the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Hank’s career includes feeding cattle across the Midwest and working as a commodity trader while building an extensive knowledge of the cattle industry and market. He then returned home to manage his family’s feedlot. Hank joined Managed Growth in 2013 and is ready to help you begin a hedging program that fits your needs.

Nick Fowler Nick is a graduate of Kansas State University, with a strong background in the cattle industry. Nick’s career spans Nebraska and Kansas where he has worked in both feedlot management and in the packing industry. Nick currently manages K Cattle Feedlot in Imperial, Nebraska, where he has applied Managed Growth’s hedging program since graduating college in 2007. Nick looks forward to helping you with your hedging needs.

Sam Cross Sam began with Managed Growth as an intern and came on board after graduating with Animal Science and Ag Economics degrees from Virginia Tech in 2015. He grew up on his family’s cow/calf and stocker operation in Edinburg, Virginia. During his time in college, Sam interned for a major feeding group in Kansas, introducing him to large-scale cattle feeding operations. Sam recently began his own cattle feeding and cow/calf enterprise and is eager to expand his career in the industry.

Frenda Wall Haynie The daughter of bicentennial dairy farmers, Frenda’s roots in southwest Virginia agriculture run deep. Frenda came to Managed Growth in 2017 after over 10 years working at her alma mater, Virginia Tech. As an advisor and instructor in the Ag Econ department there, she became fascinated with the commodity futures industry, culminating in her big career change. Frenda manages our billing and administrative responsibilities and is currently working towards her Series 3.
